Konomie Island EEC is a 65-bed residential camp facility, offering separate modern accommodation for students and staff. Cabin allocation and availability is dependent on the total number of students and the gender split between girls and boys.
Cabin Duty Procedures
Visiting groups are expected to show respect, care and concern for all facilities and equipment during their visit, including keeping their cabin and outside deck area tidy and organised, to enable daily cleaning.
- We encourage all schools to discuss respect for the centre's facilities prior to their visit and maintain active supervision during the visit.
- Teachers conduct daily cabin inspections before activities commence each day - there are posters in each cabin to inform expectations to students.
- Teachers are required to conduct a rubbish pick up around cabins before they depart. All rubbish is removed from the island.
- Teachers need to check all cabins for lost property before the depart the centre.
Student Cabins
Our centre has six large student accommodation cabins with the following features:
- Energy-efficient design including louvres for airflow and temperature regulation, and air conditioning for cooling.
- Ensuite bathrooms with hot water and water-efficient outlets.
- Composting toilets accessed from the deck.
- 240V power (NB not suitable for hairdryers or heaters)
Cabins 1, 2, 3 & 5: These cabins can sleep 11 students across two bedrooms, a central area and the "sleep-out" area. See floorplan below.

Cabin 6 has the same layout except the sleep-out area is replaced with a locked kitchenette, so the capacity is reduced to 10 students.
Cabin 4 has inclusive access via a ramp and inclusive bathroom facilities instead of the standard toilet area (see images below). It also sleeps 11 students.

Staff Cabins
Visiting teachers are routinely allocated a student cabin to share that is centrally co-located to their students. However, with larger student numbers and all six student cabins utilised, we have additional cabins available for staff:
- Sea Mist Cabin (opposite Student Cabin 1) - sleeps two.
- Visiting Teacher Cabin (behind Admin building) - sleeps four.
As these cabins are not ensuited, visiting teachers have access to the staff toilet and shower block adjacent to the Visiting Teacher Cabin.
